Hiring is exactly investment
- You have no idea which one is going to work out
- Whether it works out or doesn’t – there were indications on both sides to justify the ends
- You rely on the standard metrics
- And you bet on the people
- who have learned and grown the most in the least amount of time (using that as a projection for the future)
- who are trying to do something big in life, so when they succeed you want a piece of the pie
Getting them to perform, is like getting the startup to succeed
You’ve placed your bet! Now,
- if you stand back. You’ll watch your money burn!
- If you control, they’ll leave, leaving you with a bad name
- You just have to empower them and nudge them ever so slightly
