What makes a gamble so much fun?

Let’s rewind 50,000 years.
Our ancestors are rummaging through the jungles of Africa.
And after most kids in the tribe have starved for days, to the brink of malnourishment and death…
It’s time to make the difficult choice.
To hunt a beast.
They know it’s gonna be hard,
A few of them might even lose their life.
But they justify it to themselves.
it’s right! it’s for the tribe!
But why in the face of certain death they don’t defect?
Is “for the tribe” enough reason?
Logically it makes no sense!
Yes I could lose my life
But I might just kill a beast 10 times my size
And there lies the motivation!
Coming back to the question –
What makes a gamble so much fun?
The potential upside?
The chance that we will win?
No!
It’s the danger!
The need to feel… that feeling of
it was so… dangerous! But… I did it… I won despite!
The worst part?
It feels really brave but it’s really just stupid.
Do you know who lives longest?
Who are the most respectable?
Who makes the most difference to the tribe?
They are the leaders!
The ones who never set foot in a hunt or a fight!
